The foundation of Meg’s career as a health and fitness professional was laid in her childhood. In an era of cigarettes, cocktails and T.V. dinners, Meg’s Mom had her and her siblings pumping well-water, taking vitamins, drinking goat’s milk and exploring alternative therapies.
Out of frustration for Meg’s boundless energy her mother sent her outside to run around the block a few times. This beginning as a “mini-jogger,” without the fashion statement, became a habit that continued the rest of Meg’s life. Meg can be sighted jogging at various locations all over San Diego including Point Loma, her home turf, to as far north as Cardiff.
She has run two marathons, including the very first Rock ‘n Roll Marathon in June of 1998, plus several half marathons and countless 5 & 10k’s. Running fits Meg’s love for being outdoors and in addition to running, she enjoys other outside activities such as hiking, swimming, white-water rafting and biking.
Meg’s most recent fitness focus has been bodybuilding. Having been encouraged by several colleagues, on a whim, Meg competed in the Fitness California Competition in the Figure Division in October 2008, just after her 50th birthday. She was surprised and elated to place 2nd in her height category. She continues competing in local and regional competitions.
Her actual career as a personal trainer took a rather circuitous route. Meg always knew she wanted to be in a helping profession and started out in the field of Nursing. After nearly completing the Nursing program at San Diego State University, Meg realized nursing was not exactly her calling. She decided to take up Massage Therapy and earned a BA in Humanities from the International Professional School of Bodywork along with a Holistic Health Practitioner License.
Meg shares her gift of combing bodywork modalities in order to create effective personalized sessions. Her broad knowledge of bodywork include, Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy, Shiatsu, Tui Na, Swedish, Thai, Reiki and Jin Shin to name a few.
Meg was a massage therapist for 5 years at the Hotel Del Coronado. When the opportunity arose to take on a supervisory role at the Spa, Meg spent the next four years as manager. The experience clarified her preference for working with people on a one-to-one basis. Personal training was a natural choice, which allowed Meg to combine her love of fitness, personalized attention to a client, and enjoyment of sharing knowledge in a fun, supportive environment.
Meg went back to the books to become a nationally certified Personal Trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Meg has been certified as a Bosu integrated balance instructor, certified in assisted stretching and has taught Pilates classes having completed workshops by Balanced Body University in mat, reformer and Exo Chair. Meg has been a Personal Trainer since 2004 and her vast knowledge base in fitness and bodywork, her ability to overcome personal obstacles and her passion for working with and assisting people in reaching their potential, has helped Meg develop her individual training ethic:
To inspire and empower her clients and all those she meets to a rich, joyous life of fitness, friendship, healthy, nutritious, yummy food and good clean fun!
