I have been working out since I was 18 and I can honestly say that I have always liked to work out and exercise. I ran the 100 meter sprint and hurdles in high school abd the first gym that I trained at was at Jack LaLanneʼs European Health Spa. I remember when I was a kid, I would go to my Grandmotherʼs house and Jack LaLanne would be on television; she would make us all get up off the couch and exercise with Jack and Elaine.
I have been working out at different gyms for over 25 years. My fitness journey really began to get interesting when I started training at Fitness Quest 10. I trained with a trainer for 4 years and then began taking TD classes, small group training and working out on my own. I met RoseAnne Ignell and we decided to take fitness instructor/personal training classes at UCSD Extension; I have been an ACE certified personal trainer for two years now.
While training at Fitness Quest 10, I met Marie Lemkul. Marie talked me into competing at a powerlifting meet last year. Since then, I have competed in 5 meets and am competing in another one in January. Before, I was training simply to stay in shape. Powerlifting has given me the opportunity to train for a purpose and a goal. Having goals has made me more disciplined and motivated.
Last year, a job opening at the front desk became available at Fitness Quest 10. I am very happy to say that I have been a Director of First Impressions for almost a year! I love my job and look forward to coming to work every day.
So thats my fitness journey: I went from working out, to training for powerlifting meets and working in a world class gym.
